Welcome to Hartmans - Buddhas Belly / Tree Wall Area

Overview

Buddhas Belly
Buddhas Belly
The Buddhas Belly Area has several lines up it including the classic Buddhas Belly. This rock has some of the few best face climbing opportunities at Hartmans with solid clean rock and a bad-ass looking ,though reletively easy and perfectly protected, overhang. The climbs start as you walk up the hill with the wall on your left. Also in this area is the Tree Wall. This aptly named (due to the huge pine tree in front of it) wall has a couple of good routes on it as well.

How to get there

From the main parking lot at the top of the hill at Hartmans Rocks, continue down the road and make your second left. Follow this road and your second left (300 yards or so) will be the parking area for Buddhas Belly. The Tree Wall is directly ahead of you with Buddhas wall to your left.

(1) Unknown (5.8) Trad - Nice warmup up the left side. Toward the top, left is a little harder, but right is a nice 10-15 foot crack which is appealing. Tops out at two anchors.

(2) Unknown (5.7) Trad - One to the right of number 1. This route fades up the face. The crux is at the bottom. A variation at the bottom is to pull over the little overhang directly which bumps the grade up to a 5.10. The pro for this move is a little dicey.

(3) Unknown (5.7) Mixed - Nice climb up the crack system on the left. Follow the face up left to a bolt and then top out to two anchors.

(4) Buddhas left (5.11) Sport - Wonderful face climb up the left side of the main Buddhas Belly face. Four bolts protect you up very interesting moves to the over-hang. If you have the energy, bust a huge move to good jugs above the lip. Same top-out as Buddhas Belly.

(5) Buddhas Belly (5.10) Mixed - Classic for the area. Buddhas Belly rises up the right side of the face to the overhang and up and over. Three bolts protect the face and the roof. There's a good placement for "psycho-pro" after the second bolt.

(6) Tree Route (5.9) Mixed - Good four bolt route. Starts next to the tree. Two starts are posible, the first (and recommended) starts to the right and follows a ledge/flake up to the first bolt which is a good 20 feet above the ground. The easy climbing makes this OK. The second goes directly up the face and raises the rating to 5.10. After the third bolt, you can place a double zero Metolious in the crack which will prevent a ground fall. Top out to 2 anchors.

(7) Tree Crack (5.8) Trad - To the right of the tree is an obvious almost off-width. Bring a rack of medium cams and nuts. Tops out at anchors, or walk off to the left.
